Lead House Manager
Reports to: Guest Experience Manager
Location: Bethesda, MD
Position Status: Part-Time, 20 hrs per week
Rate: $20/hr
JOB SUMMARY:
The Lead House Manager is responsible for consistent and thorough communication with the production team and box office. The ideal candidate for this role will be proficient at communicating both face to face and over electronic devices (email, walkie talkie, etc.), who has a strong sense of time management, and can easily make final calls and decisions in moments that call for immediate action. They will be able to include necessary information on the house reports. The Lead House Manager is able to provide answers for patrons as well as listen to their compliments and/or concerns. The LHM will report directly to the Guest Experience Manager while working alongside MOD during house managing shifts. This role's shifts will mainly be Friday-Sunday from 12-6. Those with experience in FOH or childhood development are encouraged to apply.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Front of House
- Coordinate with the Stage Manager and Box Office before a performance through radio communication and in-person conversations.
- Complete all pre- and post-show tasks in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring the facility is properly prepared.
- Provide support for accessibility requests, including use of courtesy wheelchair and assisted listening devices.
- Maintain communication with Stage Management during the show
- Seat all patrons appropriately in the house and troubleshoot any double-seating or ticketing issues with discretion and haste.
- Working closely with MOD to ensure proper staff are in place for all performances.
- This position requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time, communicating with Box Office and Stage Management via headset, repeatedly traversing a distance of approximately 50’ and opening doors for the audience.
- As required, complete and send end of show reports detailing house counts, tickets sold, and any patron comments or concerns/facility issues.
- Assist in the safe evacuation of the audience in the event of an emergency.
- Respond to any medical emergency in the theater and lobby and alert emergency personnel as appropriate.
- Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- House management, box office, stage management or similar events experience preferred.
- Excellent customer service background. Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Schedule flexibility and willingness to work performances and events, including nights and weekends.
- Candidates must have familiarity with computers.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certified or ability to complete certification is preferred.
- A background and/or interest in theatre is a plus.
- Persons that are bilingual are strongly encouraged to apply.
Scheduling
House Managers will choose their own shifts. Scheduling shifts are done on a first come, first serve basis using the Homebase scheduling software.
- House Managers are expected to arrive for their shift an hour before the start of the show.
- Early Childhood Theatre shows take place in our Reeve Theatre. These shows are for children ages 1-5 and may require additional assistance from the House Manager.
- Saturday and Sunday usually have two (2) shows per production. House Managers are expected to work both show times when picking up shifts for that weekend.
- House Managers are also responsible for house managing Student Show Performances, which occur from Friday-Sunday in the evening.
