Theatre for Change Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Theatre for Change Senior Manager
LOCATION: Bethesda, MD

FLSA Status: Exempt
Hours: Full-Time, Monday-Friday, with some evenings and weekends

Job Summary
The Theatre for Change (TFC) Coordinator works closely with the Theatre for Change Senior Manager to assist in carrying out day to day tasks. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with youth in applied theatre, arts advocacy, and a desire to learn more about the impact of theatre arts education. Candidates must have a flexible work schedule and be willing to take initiative to gain hands-on experience being a theatre for change community impactor.

Program Summary
Using theatre productions and educational workshops to bridge cultural divides and lift up underrepresented voices, Imagination Stage’s Theatre for Change program explores complex social justice issues to help build a new generation of compassionate, collaborative children who are capable of changing the world.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Site Coordination

  • Help develop and maintain relationships with ESOL department heads, principals, humanities instructors and parent liaisons at various public schools. Help oversee the Health and Human Services grant with 6 Montgomery County schools, and the Socio emotional learning grant with the F3 DCPS schools with the DCPS Fine Arts liaison
  • Work with the TfC Sr. Manager to make sure teaching artists complete onboarding procedures for clearances at each TfC Site
  • Work with TfC Sr. Manager to keep track of attendance and evaluation data for residencies
  • Assist in the communication of planning and development across a variety of settings ranging from police departments to public schools to carceral spaces
  • Attend program/partnership meetings
  • General administrative tasks as assigned by the TfC Sr. Manager

Curriculum

  • Assist in creating and updating curriculum for TfC residencies
  • Help to create a learning guide for educators and community group leaders to be utilized with new TfC commissioned plays

TfC Tour Coordination

  • Help schedule performances of our outreach touring productions, to local middle and high schools as well as community groups
  • Coordinate the schedule and needs with the production stage manager
  • Develop relationships with new community groups and schools
  • Assist in post-show audience engagement activities and coordinate supply needs.
  • Take on a creative or SM role within TfC Productions (i.e. assistant direct, understudy or stage manage)

Advocacy and Community Building

  • Attend community forums and panels around issues of immigration, DACA, migrant children and arts for change.
  • Coordinate TfC Task Force meetings
  • Coordinate professional trainings for artists to get involved in our TfC work
  • Seek non-arts partners such as museums and universities to partner in new ways with our programs

Teaching

  • Teach or assistant teach at least one TfC Residency per semester
  • Shadow classes at an MCPS or DC school to become familiar with the program and student population we serve.
  • Help observe and evaluate off site teaching artists and provide feedback when appropriate
  • Co-lead professional trainings for teaching artists

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in utilizing applied theatre techniques
  • Advocacy or community organizing experience preferred
  • Comfortability with public speaking
  • Ability to speak multiple languages is a plus
  • Understanding of trauma informed and healing centered teaching, and experience working with public school teachers
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proven administrative and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with students, teachers, district leaders and community partners
  • Ability to work independently and with initiative
  • Clear understanding of—and passionate commitment to—arts for change
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weeks and to travel to various sites in the immediate region
  • Patience, flexibility with work schedule, empathy, and a sense of humor

  • Reliable transportation a plus; mileage reimbursement available

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Annual Salary: $44,200-$52,000
