A Note from Nathaniel P. Claridad, Director of Petite Rouge: A Cajun Red Riding Hood
Just like the Little Red Riding Hood story on which Petite Rouge is based, our heroine is possessed by an insatiable curiosity and hunger to learn about the wider world. It is a trait, as a theatre maker and educator, that I hope to feed and encourage in both my audiences and students.
As adults, we know that growth and learning are always accompanied by a bit of fear and the possibility of hurt, heartbreak, and disappointment--all the threats we hope to protect our children from. It is a double edged sword that is both inevitable and necessary.
If you are part of our young audience, I hope you recognize the courage Petite has. It is my wish that you ask questions, as well as experience the world and all the many different perspectives it offers. If you are an adult reading this, the theatre is where my own curiosity and hunger for learning were satiated, and I am so thrilled you have decided to introduce your children to this art form.
I hope that you and your family find here a safe space to learn, to imagine, and to grow--and where the dangers of a hungry gator are kept on stage.
